DESCRIPTION

OBJECTIVES

This programme is designed to produce:

  • Students who are knowledgeable, competent and innovative in computer security industry;
  • Students with effective leadership and team work skills as well as verbal, non-verbal and interpersonal communication skills to support their role in computer security industry;
  • Students who are committed to the importance of lifelong learning and continuous improvement in IT industry;
  • Students who practice professionalism with ethics and social responsibility; and
  • Students who are capable of embarking on security and technopreneurial activities.

PROGRAMME DETAILS

NO Programme Educational Outcomes (PEO)
1 To produce graduates who are knowledgeable, competent and innovative which will contribute towards the requirement of the human capital in IT and E-Commerce related industries.
2 To produce graduates who  have effective leadership and team work skills as well as verbal, non-verbal and interpersonal communication skills to support their roles in IT and E-Commerce industries.
3 To produce graduates who are commited to the importance of lifelong learning and continuous improvement.
4 To produce graduates who practice professionalism with ethics and social responsibility.
5 To produce graduates who are capable to participate in business and technopreneurial activities of the industries.
NO Program Learning Outcomes (PLO)
1 Apply knowledge of IT fundamentals and/or computer system security specialization to defined and applied procedures, processes, systems and methodologies.
2 Select and apply appropriate techniques, resources and tools to IT and computer system security activities, with an understanding of the limitations.
3 Demonstrate awareness and consideration for societal, safety and management responsibilities.
4 Demonstrate professional ethics and responsibilities  and norms of IT security practice.
5 Ability to communicate effectively, not only with IT security experts but also with publicly individually or group.
6 Conduct investigations of IT and computer system security problems; locate, search and select relevant data from codes, databases and literature, design and conduct experiments to provide valid conclusion.
7 Recognize the need for, and have the ability to engage in independent and lifelong learning.
8 Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of management, business practices, and/or technopreneurial competencies.

SEMESTER SUBJECTS
Semester 1

In this semester, students will be introduced to principle of computer programming, information systems, language, communication and technopreneurial courses. These skills will ensure the students conception of computer systems and communication to equip then for a smooth transition to the subsequent semesters.

Semester 2

In ensuring strong fundamental skills, this semester will introduce students to the basic requirements of computer system security.  The knowledge gained through this semester will provide them with a better understanding of the components involved in computer security.

Semester 3

This semester will provide a deeper comprehension of computer application and design. Besides, it also offers the students an advanced knowledge in network which will expand their understanding of computer security. Creativity and innovativeness will be instilled to improve the way of thinking.

Semester 4

Advanced construction of computer security is further imparted through the understanding of computer operability and the world of cryptography will be explored. Students will be exposed to electives that are vital in computer security such as incident handling and response or IT security audit and assessment.

Semester 5

Students are now ready to move to the critical aspects of security for network and software development. This semester will also help the students to develop their research skills through Research Methodology module.

Semester 6

In this semester students are exposed to the skills central in computer security such as identifying and penetrating vulnerabilities of issues in an information system. They will be exposed to the skills needed in managing a project and begin to identify their own projects.

Semester 7

In the final semester, the students are provided more advanced skills of computer security of cyber forensic, advanced network security and business continuity planning. Students will also conclude their project through Final Year Project 2.

Semester 8

This semester is an industrial exposure through the Industrial Training / Internship program which is a part of the curriculum to increase employability amongst BCSS students. The industrial training will provide them with invaluable insights of computer security industry. In many occasions, the placements offer opportunities for employment.
